Southwest Florida Goodwill Foundation
"Goodwill helped prepare my daughter for her future."
Your tax-deductible gifts change lives!
This year, we will serve 42,400 individuals in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades counties that's 1 in every 29 people.
Savannah was born with Down Syndrome and was home-schooled most of her life. At 15 years of age, Savannah enrolled in Goodwill's L.I.F.E. Academy, a tuition-free charter school focused on academic skills, daily life skills, and vocational/workforce skills that help students become productive members of society. She then went on to participate in Goodwill's Pathways to Opportunity program for individuals 18+ years of age which prepared her in continuing her independence as an adult.
"L.I.F.E. Academy gave her a sense of belonging and helped her self-esteem," says her mother Tracy Hadsock.
"Having that educational experience combined with the transitional life preparation training of the Pathways program definitely equipped her to work cooperatively with others and I have seen a huge increase in her independence. Goodwill helped prepare her for the future."
Charitable gifts to the Foundation give individuals like Savannah the opportunity to gain their independence and be productive members of our Southwest Florida community.
You can immediately help many others like Savannah who are currently in our programs or are on the waiting list for placement by funding one of these critical areas:
- The Pathways to Opportunity program serving our 18+ year old population.
Our strategic plan calls for the expansion of Pathways to meet identified and increasing needs in both Collier County and Lee County by 2017. For instance, total start-up costs for The Collier Pathways to Opportunity program in year 1 is $252,000 to $382,000 (to include 2 accessible vans for the program) and annual costs up to $300,000.
We are already at capacity with our first Pathways program in Lee County. Your generous charitable investment toward Pathways to Opportunity helps us continue to build, expand and sustain the independence and life exploration opportunities for many young adults who have disabilities or disadvantages that present barriers to an enriched and fulfilling life.
- The L.I.F.E. (Life Institute for Education) Academy Charter Middle and High School
L.I.F.E. Academy is a tuition-free, open enrollment Lee County Charter School in Fort Myers at The Goodwill Opportunity Center campus for students with intellectual disabilities who are entering grades 6 through 12 (ages 11 - 22). Programs for these students are individualized to focus on life skills, vocational training and functional academics. The annual operating budget of the L.I.F.E. Academy is $800,000 of which 38%-40% in private support is required to sustain operations at 100% enrollment.
Major gifts and multi-year pledges toward either the Pathways to Opportunity or L.I.F.E. Academy programs are a significant need at this time and naming opportunities are also available if so desired as part of your gift recognition. We also facilitate and support the important role that our donors' legal and tax advisors have in constructing the very best charitable gift and investment in Goodwill's mission. We are here to help and to listen as you explore your generous partnership with us and the good works we can do together on behalf of Southwest Florida's disabled and disadvantaged populations.
